Recipe challenge for children in preschool through eighth grade who currently reside in Wyandotte or Johnson counties in Kansas, and Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte counties in Missouri.
All recipes must include one fresh, locally grown ingredient. Entries must be received by Nov. 30 and include photos of the participant shopping for local ingredients, preparing the recipe and the completed dish. For a full list of rules and to enter, visit kchealthykids.org.
Entries will be judged based on creativity, healthy ingredients and the use of fresh, local produce that would be available in Missouri and Kansas during the timeframe of the contest. Recipes should be designed for use in a school cafeteria setting (i.e. no grilling, frying or barbecuing).
Finalists will be honored at the KC Healthy Kids Youth Summit in March 2018 and featured in an upcoming cookbook. Winners will also receive a culinary gift basket.
