Kids ages 2-12 who visited Harmon Park and the Prairie Village swimming pool July 6 were given three different playground designs and themes and were invited to vote for their favorite. Votes were then tallied and given to the Johnson County Board of Park and Recreation Commissioners for approval. The winning theme: The Tree Line Adventure.
JCPRD is in the process of developing the 15,000-square-foot destination playground with elements that are unique to the area. The playground will offer two separate areas, one geared to children ages 2-5, and another geared to kids ages 5-12. The district is also working to build a playground that is creative, original, ADA compliant and inclusive.
The playground, which is expected to be complete in spring 2018, will be located near a new activity center. Other new amenities planned for the park include The Grove Playground, which would feature outdoor musical instruments, a sandbox and a climbing net; hiking trails; ponds; pickleball courts; and a sledding hill.
