With performances inspired by superheroes, science, a beloved Disney movie and more, the Kansas City Symphony’s 2017-18 lineup is sure to earn a standing ovation from even the youngest music lovers.
This year’s Family Series will include four performances. On Oct. 1 KC Symphony will present Superheroes at the Symphony, depicting favorite superheroes through the music of Strauss and Wagner. Children are invited to wear their favorite superhero disguise for this special performance. On Nov. 12, the symphony will tell the story of Stravinsky’s Firebird through music, puppetry, theater, masks and shadow play. On Dec. 17 visitors will be treated to the sounds of the season at the symphony’s Christmas Festival. On March 4, 2018, the symphony will pair up with Kansas City’s STEAM Team to teach children about the science behind sound.
All Family Series performances begin at 2 p.m. Each child’s subscription is $10 with the purchase of an adult subscription.
KC Symphony will bring the glamour of Hollywood to Kansas City with several movie-themed performances, including Screenland at the Symphony: Star Trek Into Darkness Live, Sept. 8 and Sept. 10; Disney in Concert: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Dec. 22-23; and Screenland at the Symphony: Back to the Future, April 20-21, 2018.
For those looking for a more traditional musical experience, the 2017-18 lineup also includes 14 concerts in the Classical Series and four in the Pops series.
Subscriptions are now available for purchase online at kcsymphony.org or by calling the Symphony Box Office at 816-471-0400. Subscription renewals must be received by March 15. Tickets for individual performances will be available beginning in July.
